This series has been inspired by my beautiful Grandad... He was the most talented woodturner and after my son was born he began carving pacific patterns into the sides of his kauri bowls and jewellery boxes... I've explored texture, layering and light with this work which despite looking fairly simple in design has been complex to paint! Zero room for error; 14 layers in total to achieve an 'embossed' effect to compliment the beautiful, gold stained woodgrain below...💛

I am proud to have a collection of nearly a dozen pieces of his work and he has always inspired us to be ourselves and whatever obstacles you face in life, be strong, be brave and carry on... Love and miss you so much Grandad 💛xx
